Volvo Introduces Eco Model For Executives

Volvo will be rolling out environmentally-friendly cars for executives over the coming year.

The car maker has just announced Eco-friendly versions of its S80 saloon and V70 estate models, which will emit less than 120g per kilometer of carbon emissions.

Current versions of these Volvo models emit around 129g/km CO2 a year.

According to the company, fuel savings will amount to about 60 liters over the course of a year – estimated to be around the size of a free tankful.

The car, targeted at green minded executives, is expected to compete with premium models including the Jaguar XF, Audi A6, BMW 5 series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Both models deploy ‘smart battery recharging’, which only allows the alternator to charge the battery when the engine is operating at a low level – for example, when driving downhill.

Volvo Cars president and CEO Stephen Odell said: “There has been a swift pace of development since the launch of our first 119-gram models in Paris in autumn 2008.

“The fact that we have now brought two of the larger models in our range below the magical 120 gram limit shows that few of our competitors can match us when it comes to offering customers increasingly green cars.”
