The world's greatest interviewees share a set of secret core skills, according to BusinessWeek.

Columnist Carmine Gallo lists seven of these secret talents that are common to most of the planet's effective interviewees.

They include the ability to communicate without resorting to technical terms or jargon.

Readers are told that acronyms are particularly hazardous as they can stand for different things in different industries.

Whichever industry is being discussed, passion is another top tip for interviewees looking to raise their game.

Indeed, demonstrating enthusiasm for a topic behind the scenes as well as in the interview itself is suggested as a good approach.

Speaking confidently is recommended - although readers are also advised that they should know when not to speak at all.

Being overly promotional is discouraged - but, conversely, educating the audience or interviewer is encouraged.

And ensuring that a response is given, however awkward the question, completes the list of seven top skills.

Business blogger Solomon King terms the list "sound advice" for companies looking to raise their standard of press relations.

His own guidance suggests that audiences treat what they hear as if it were a television signal.

Mr King explains that this means filtering out any "noise" to ensure that only the desired information is received.
