Why Websites are No Longer Optional for Businesses

In the digital age, the phrase "industry leader" means more than winning the battle of dollars and market share. An industry leader also excels in digital marketing. The core of digital marketing is web marketing. A company that takes marketing seriously must focus on the web. An executive may ask the question, "Why should we have the best website when we have the best sales?" The answer is simple.

A company that wants to be the market leader in the long term needs to lead with the web. If that alone is not enough of a convincing statement, then there are plenty of reasons to back up why your company should have the best website in your market.

Websites Are No Longer Optional

Having the best website is not a marketing gimmick or something to ignore, it is an essential part of a company's identity. In fact, a company's website is a company's identity. Your website is the first thing you want a company to find on the Internet. A website is a place where you can target and hone your message to a focused audience. The amount of information that can be disseminated through a website exceeds pamphlets, instruction manuals and email newsletters.

With the best website in a market, a company can trust they will remain an industry leader or among the leaders for the foreseeable future.

The Internet is now the World's Largest Information Resource

More people turn to the Internet for news than television or newspaper. More people connect with their family over the Internet and email than phones. When people need information on a subject or to find a supplier of a product, they search Google, instead of the Yellow Pages.

Facebook alone has more members than the entire population of the United States. That alone speaks for the potential power having the best website in a market can deliver to a company. Facebook beat out dozens of competitors and imitators, now it stands alone because its website remained better.

If the argument that the web is a "big deal" hasn't been made yet. Here's the truth: the Internet will become the world's only resource over the next several decades. Analysts predict that movies, TV, music, videogames and shopping will see most of, if not all of their revenues, from the web in the next twenty to thirty years. If your company does not already have the best website in the market, then it is time to play catch-up. Many executives see the web as a black hole for marketing dollars. Having your own website is cheaper than advertising on TV, or in newspapers or magazines.

The biggest buzzword in marketing is SEO. Search Engine Optimization is the core of modern marketing and SEO happens only on the web. An SEO website will help your company become the best in the market. SEO places a strong focus on making a website appear high in Google's ranking, so that when a person searches for the leader in a market, they will find a company's website that best represents that market. Don't you want your company to be first on that list? That starts with having the best website in your niche.
